Community
Recently I attended a birthday party. I enjoyed it very much and was happy to dance all night long.
The conversations I had on that evening stirred something in me to write about my retirement in the future.
When I was young , living in Europe, the Black Forest and other places, community was very important. So much happened on the market square and older people were part of the life.
I see retirement for me as being part of a small community with the opportunity to get out and about and being part of the heart of where I live.
Community Centres are the perfect way to start living that dream.
In 2022 I started hiring rooms at different community centres in Bayside, Melbourne. Since then I have gained more understanding of the amazing services they offer .
There are many great courses, workshops and classes on offer and really something special for everyone in the community. Most of all, they offer companionship with other people and a safe place outside home.
I am very grateful to have the opportunity to work in such great environments with friendly and supportive teams. I have met people with outstanding skills, professionalism and care for others.
They are wonderful places. The rooms are spacious and the reception areas are light filled and welcoming.
I am fully committed to the philosophy of community centres and the opportunities they offer for both problem solving and pleasure.
I was invited twice in 2024 for interviews at the local radio station where I put the community centres and my services on spotlight.
I am still a few years away from retirement. I believe aspects from both my worlds would work well for me. A bit of European flair and a sense of belonging in a local community in Australia.
Here is a photo of a wonderful group of ladies I have been teaching for many years. They are called the ‘supers’. There is no more space is in this class. It is a group that got bigger over the past three years, everyone brings a friend along and it is great how they’re sharing the joy of movement together.
How do you feel about local community spirit?
Drop me a message. I would love to hear from you.
