Our outdoor fitness classes are about coming together and getting fit, feeling great and having 'fun'.

Health, Happiness and Friendships That Last

I believe the outdoor session at Create Movement is a fantastic Transformation Program.

I trialled a couple of outdoor sessions in 2015. It was a slow process and I found that some people prefer very early morning sessions, ready to go to work by 8 am. To find a balanced lifestyle commitment to sessions early in the morning is hard. Specially in winter.

I ran the 6.15 am class for a while at my homebased studio in Highett.

Then whilst in Lockdown, sessions were held online. As soon as we could meet in parks to train again, the outdoor sessions came alive. Spaces for classes were limited as we were not allowed to have classes indoors.

The 6.15 am class today is still running outdoors and only over the winter months, do we shift indoors.

The benefits of these classes are more than just the Mind, Body activity in a group mat work setting.

The outdoor classes have been come very popular in private session and duet form and it seems  that a good way to getting lasting results is to buddy up with someone.

The local community in Bayside has much on offer, nice local parks and some outdoor spaces overlooking the beach or parkland.

Being in nature combines mental clarity and physical movement by breathing in air that comes from trees and bushes. This unique combination makes outdoor classes exceptionally rewarding for body, mind and spirit.

We face multifaceted challenges like becoming accustomed to uneven surfaces, perhaps an unexpected cool seaside breeze and simply the fact that we are becoming more aware of our surroundings, birds, trees, body in space and so on. These help to build resilience and stamina.

Most people discover something about themselves and it is often worthwhile to share with others and myself.  It can be some valuable information about the sensations highlighting the importance of interoception, the moment to moment process in which bodily sensations are felt and  emotionally responded to. In an outdoor terrain , you are more likely to be exposed to different stimuli and feel alive in nature.

We giggle over small things. Many friendships have formed over the past 9 years!

It is an ideal time to take a break from any of life’s pressure, and the outdoor classes bring clarity and head space. Functional training combined with pleasure.

I encourage you to take up outdoor classes specially now during summer! Perhaps you will discover new possibilities for your own practice and it can be a great change from attending stuffy rooms where airflow is limited.

Group outdoor classes are held

Kind words from one of our longtime “outdoor - pilatesing fan”:

Our mats are under old banksia trees. Beyond them we can see the silvery sea.

We have chosen a half shady, half sunny site but will probably move as the sun dictates.

Flashes of colour alert us to colourful parrots flitting, chattering and watching us perform gentle Pilates stretches.

As I lie on my mat I watch the clouds change and watch Claudia and my better half.

Somebody in the distance is walking their dog.

No matter how the day starts, I always feel so much better after our sessions. Thank you for your kindness, Claudia.
